On a busy morning, the on-duty crew was alerted to an emergency situation when members heard a loud commotion outside. A large crowd of people began coming out of the Savers Bank, located directly across the street from Fire Headquarters, and started heading for the fire station. Dispatch than notified the duty crew that the bank had been robbed with a suspicious device. Upon bank personnel confirming that the suspect was not in the crowd, the occupants of the bank were safely evacuated to Fire Headquarters. The MA State Police Bomb Squad was immediately requested and arrived shortly. Auburn Street was shut down for several hours while bomb squad technicians rendered the device safe, and detectives cleared the crime scene.
